Not to be confused with the even older city bearing the same name in Lebanon, Tripoli is Libya’s capital city. It is sometimes referred to as Tripoli-of-the-West to prevent confusion. It sits on a bay of the Mediterranean Sea alongside the fringes of the desert in northwest Libya. It is a major commercial and manufacturing city as well as having one of the area’s most important sea ports. The place from where Colonial Gaddafi ruled from, the immense Bab al-Azizia Barracks can be found in the heart of Tripoli.
The city was founded in the 7th century BC, and as such there are many interesting and significant historical and archaeological sites scattered around the city which makes a car rental from VIP Cars a good idea.
